Based in the Lake District for the past 20 years, the wild landscape has inspired me to paint, carve and sculpt. These different forms of expression have come together with a fascination for the medium of bark which invites the unification of colour, form and texture.

Traditions of working with bark exist all around the world and in my work, symbols from diverse cultures can be juxtaposed against those from nature and against personal symbols. A personal reservoir of graphics and devices have been instilled in me from art education, from childhood, from work as an archaeologist and collecting imagery from travels in Africa, South East Asia, India, Central America and Europe.
